BOTOX™ is a safe and effective treatment for deep wrinkles between the eyebrows, called glabellar lines, forehead wrinkles and crows feet. BOTOX™ works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for the wrinkling effect when you change your expression, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles in these areas. Repeat treatments will be needed to achieve a longer lasting effect, and initial treatments don’t last as long as subsequent ones do.
The Botulism toxin used in these procedures is a purified, low concentrate form that is applied in minuscule doses. BOTOX™ blocks the release of a chemical that causes the muscles to contract maintaining a relaxed state. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles. BOTOX™ is most effective when used with muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles formed by facial movement. Because of its ability to maintain muscles in a relaxed state, BOTOX™ can be used with nearly any muscle that is contracting too often or too strongly.
